Spin-off

Several businesses are born from the knowledge and skills developed in the research laboratories of DIEF. Some of them (the younger spin-offs) are still in incubation phase, while others are start-ups that have long been operating in full autonomy.

Due to their academic origin and thanks to the constant synergy with university research laboratories, Spin-offs and Start-ups are an additional research resource to explore and propose novel high technology solutions.
    

Start-Up in civil and environmental areas

GEIS innovates and makes it simple, easy and fast, the resolution of issues related to metric measurements, increasing the quality of results and reducing the costs.
Our activities are specialized in the field of the integrated engineering, with a particular focus on the use of innovative technologies and methodologies of geomatics services for the design and problem-solving in the areas of monitoring and testing of structures and infrastructure, land protection, cultural heritage and smart agriculture.


Spin-Off in mechanics and materials areas

R&D CFD was founded as a spin-off of the research group on internal combustion engines. The spin-off provides access for the automotive industries to the long experience of the research group in the study of the engines, enhanced by the use of the most modern tools of computational fluid dynamics.

Spin-Off in electronics and informatics areas

BISY   
The core business of Bisy can be described as: "Proposing a novel, highly modular software to solve the problems of budgeting, planning and collaboration of small/micro enterprises, both single and organized in clusters." Bisy aims to provide to its customers the ability to: simplify and streamline relationships with customers and suppliers, plan and optimize the management of internal resources, and assign tasks to partners in supply chains and networks businesses. The reference market for Bisy's software is that of small/micro enterprises and subcontracting services that, in the last decade, were not involved in the computer-based evolution that affected the larger companies. Typically, these companies perform value-added activities in the intermediate stages of the value chain or in the early stages of repair and maintenance processes and could greatly benefit from an innovative software tool.

DataRiver
DataRiver (www.datariver.it/) is a Spin-Off of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia founded in June 2009 to deliver an Open Source version of the MOMIS Data Integration System developed by the DBGroup, the Database Research Group (www.dbgroup.unimore.it). DataRiver offers Data Integration, Information Management, Business Intelligence and Clinical Data Management solutions.
DataRiver obtained the Accreditation as Research Innovation Institution of the Emilia Romagna Region and has been officially registered as  an Innovative Start-Up at the special section of “Registro Imprese”, the Italian Business Register.
The mission of DataRiver is to allow customers to better understand data through an integrated and unified view of the data sources inside and outside the company. The value resulting from the integrated data enables companies to improve decision-making, production and estimation processes, optimizing costs and time effort.
DataRiver offers cutting-edge solutions and specialized consulting services for problems in the fields of Data Integration, Semantic Web and Business Intelligence.


RSens designs , manufactures and distributes sensors that detect and measure the concentration of Radon, which is an odourless, colourless and tasteless gas. Radon is deemed to be the second leading cause of lung cancer. RSens is the first joint spin-off of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the University of Trento, and it was born out of a joint research project between the two renowned Universities.
RSens was established in January 2011. To date, RSens has won several prizes and awards region-wide and nationwide: this evidences the high quality of the research that is the basis of each product and the high social and environmental value of the business idea. RSens boasts a highly skilled entrepreneurial team and a nationwide network of technological partnerships including INFN (National Institute of Nuclear Physics), University of Pisa, University of Trieste and the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) in Trento.
R&D and product design are entirely carried out at RSens headquarters, where sensor production is also managed. RSens product are entirely designed and manufactured in Italy. Each supplier has been carefully selected to ensure nothing but the highest world-class quality standards.

AstrA RESEARCH   

Astra Research is a spin-off of the Engineering Department of the Enzo Ferrari of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The expertise of the company origins in the machine construction research group guided by prof. Antonio Strozzi. Such expertise is made available to small, medium and large companies that cooperates with Astra Research.

Mimesis   
mimesis was founded as an academic spin-off by the applied physics research group of the Department of Engineering of Modena, with the objective of linking the academic world to the business environment and promoting technology transfer. Mimesis is an engineering company working in the fields of fluid dynamics and energy management.
mimesis  means imitation of nature, a nature which always evolves, improves and refines itself... if the goal is to optimize, for sure there is no better muse.
The belief that energy efficiency and fluid dynamics are complementary aspects in the optimization of products, plants and processes, brings mimesis to tackle problems with an integrated and multidisciplinary approach.

Vision-e is a technology transfer company, founded in 2006 by a group of engineers operating in the field of computer vision.
